Terms of Service

Last updated 9 July 2026

These terms apply to the Spotless iOS app, the website at spotless.fyi, and the Spotless browser extension. By using any of them, you agree to what follows.

What Spotless is

Spotless republishes restaurant inspection records that city and county health departments make public, and adds a score and a plain-English summary to help you read them. It is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any health department or government agency.

Accuracy, and what you should not rely on

Inspection data is published by the agencies listed on our privacy page, and we show it as we receive it. It can be out of date, incomplete, or wrong at the source. A restaurant may have been re-inspected, cleaned up, changed hands, or closed since its last published record.

We match restaurants to their inspection records automatically, by name and address. That matching can be wrong. A grade shown next to a restaurant is our best guess that the record belongs to that restaurant, not a certainty.

Spotless is provided for general information only. Do not rely on it to make decisions about your health or safety. Check the relevant health department’s own records if a decision matters. If you believe we have attached the wrong record to a restaurant, tell us at hello@spotless.fyi and we will correct it.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account. You may delete it at any time from inside the iOS app, or by emailing us. We may suspend or remove an account that is being used to abuse the service or to harm other people.

Acceptable use

Do not scrape, resell, or bulk-extract data from Spotless; do not use it to harass a business or its staff; and do not attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service. The underlying inspection data is public — get it from the source, where the agencies publish it under their own terms.

No warranty, and limits on our liability

Spotless is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Spotless, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for the current version of Spotless is nothing.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and continuing to use Spotless means you accept the updated terms.
